Cultural Studies is an intellectual art studio. In our classes, we draw, sculpt, gild, glue, invent, calculate, and build architectural models, paint stones, and ceramics.

We immerse ourselves in historical epochs and cultural layers — starting with cave paintings, then moving on to Ancient Egypt, Greece — discussing archaic and classical periods, ancient and modern China and Japan, the indigenous peoples of Australia and Polynesia, Native Americans, and the inhabitants of India, Nepal, and Tibet.

Each class is two hours of creativity, coupled with an engaging narrative about the history and art of different peoples.

• While learning about the adventures of Hercules, children mold and paint amphorae.

• Exploring the reasons behind Japan's special love for cats, children choose from a collection of cat portraits to draw, while also learning the Japanese tongue twister 'Kono no neko koneko ne' and signing their work in Japanese.

• Listening to the story of Buddha, children reflect on what it means to be human, ponder the importance of decisions, and, along with Siddhartha, think about how to make the world a better place.

Children leave class taking home masterpieces created by their own hands. Cultural studies classes shape an intellectual, well-rounded, thinking individual.
